New coworkers showed me this place on my first day. the food was fresh and the price reasonable. I got bulgogi and rice. They were quick and fresh and very nice. Food was yummy; had a hard time choosing. Someone in front of me got the bibimbap and it looked delicious. Definitely will go back

I chanced, pun intended, upon Bonne Chance Cafe during one of my many walks on Canal Street. I had my lavender lemonade in hand when out of the corner of my eyes I see a giant poster for bibimbap. Bibimbap is a Korean rice dish with mixed salted pickled vegetables topping. It usually come with a marinated protein, usually thinly sliced pork or beef in a sweet Korean marinade. Also sometimes topped off with a fried egg. Sounds like a lot? Well, it is. The poster caught me by surprise. I have walked this street countless times but never noticed the cafe.
For a fast food cafe, Bonne does a very decent bibimbap for the price that you pay. It is nothing to rave about but it's definitely a quick option for lunch. It takes about 5 -7 minutes to prepare. The vegetables are pre-made and packaged. You're really waiting for the marinated meat topping, the fried egg, and the rice. It will not come in a hot stone pot as how most Korean restaurants does it. Instead, the rice comes in a small to go container. The vegetables you get include blanched bean sprouts, spinach, green squash, carrot, lettuce, and mushroom. You can pick spicy pork, beef, or chicken for protein. I have tried all three and all are decent with the beef being my favorite followed by pork and then chicken. Some days the marinated mushrooms can be slightly salty but other days perfectly fine. The portion is huge and I never finish.
The cafe also serves breakfast items which I have not yet tried. There is also a salad bar which I see a lot of people choose during the lunch rush. You can also get dumplings from the salad bar area. You can get either meat or vegetable dumplings. I have tried the spicy vegetable dumplings and they have a nice kick to them. There is a good amount of seatings by the window if you want to eat in. Overall, great place if you work in the area and want to grab a quick lunch. -

No. Just no.
I have zero patience for establishments that advertise business hours and then choose not to open. Twice.
I gave them TWO chances and I arrived over an hour after they supposedly open.
Lights were on, front door was open, creepy metal gate usually seen at liquor stores was down, employee was fondling fruit in the window.
What a waste of my time. This is way too much effort for a simple black iced coffee in the morning. I always opt to shop small, but you need to be OPEN for me to do so.
Won't be back. -

Update on my previous review: I have also tried the spicy pork. The sauce that the pork is marinated in is spectacular. The pork has a good spice, not overwhelming, and is very tender! I am not one for fat so I tend to remove it from the meat I am eating. There was not too too much fat on most pieces so that was good for me. :)

The boss is very friendly too, especially if you are Korean, bibimbap is really delicious! All the other foods are delicious, too, and they are all very expensive ~ I have a place to eat and eat easily, so it is a good place for breakfast and lunch!
